Harley Davidson 110th Anniversary

Project Description

In 2013, iconic American brand Harley Davidson was celebrating it’s 110th anniversary by throwing a massive party at it’s Milwaukee museum.

Pixel Farm was contracted to help set the atmosphere by providing a series of animated video vignettes and an interactive component that would be projected on the museums 40 foot high wall.

I was part of the creative team that developed the concept for the interactive portion, an interactive display of tweets and instagram posts for the event’s official hashtagsl

Adobe Flash (r.i.p.) was used to create both the front and back ends of the interactive portion and required me to build out the graphics, data layer and administrative tools. User generated content was pulled from Twitter and Instagram feeds, parsed and modified as needed, queued for approval and finally projection mapped to fill the large “HARLEY DAVIDSON” text built into the wall.

The back end was pre-populated with a selection of tweets and photos as a means of backup and initial content. During the event, a tool would pull in the lastest content and be set in an unapproved queue allowing admins to approve content before being publicly displayed. Tools for adjusting the final alignment of the content to the in-built logo on the wall were also included allowing for fine adjusments on-site.

This project was memorable for me having to make the final updates to the code and graphics one-handed and on pain killers after breaking my arm in an accident less than a week before the event.
